Stop the European Parliament TV
Considering that the website of the Television of the European Parliament:
- forces citizens to buy a computer running a recent Microsoft Operating system or a recent Apple Macintosh;
- forces citizens to use closed source, proprietary, and patented formats and protocols such as Microsoft Windows Media, Adobe Flash or MPEG4;
- excludes users of computers with ARM, MIPS, PowerPC, m68k, SPARC processors;
- excludes users of operating systems such as Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, GNU/Linux, OS/2, AIX, Solaris, OS/390, UNIX/BSD, Nokia Symbian, Google Android, or MAC OS 9.
Asks the European Parliament to:
- stop immediately the European Parliament TV unless all citizens of Europe are not discriminated by the technology, notably by paying royalties to patent holders;
- stop immediately using formats such as Microsoft Windows Media, Adobe Flash or MPEG4;
- invest in free standards for video streaming and video format;
- provide all audio and video recordings in a royalty-free video format, such as OGG Vorbis;
- provide all audio and video recordings over royalty-free protocols, such as HTTP and FTP.
